Speculative Essay

                                                                                                                                  Hadia Malik

                                                 Speculative Essay

Kelly gazed at the calendar in front of her and located the eighth of May.

“Brian, its Mother’s Day on May eight,” said Kelly circling the date with a marker. “We should do something special for mom.”

Brian looked up from is Sherlock Holmes novel and glanced at his sister. “Your right, mom looks so exhausted when she comes back from work,” he replied. “Then she has to clean the house and take care of us.”

Kelly was aware of this. She knew taking care of two middle school kids, managing the house and working fulltime was no easy feat for a single parent.

“How about we bake a chocolate cake, that’s her favorite kind but she never has enough time to enjoy it.”

“We can also clean the entire house as well,” added Kelly.

It sounded good to them and together they gathered all the supplies and planned how they would do everything. They worked hard because they wanted to show their gratitude and their love for their mom. When May 8 finally arrived, Kelly and Brian were anxious to get started. They could not wait to see mom’s face when they were done.

“Bye! See you later.” said Kelly.

Brian kissed his mom goodbye. They watched the front door close and immediately jumped to their feet. Brian got the vacuum and soon the humming of it filled the house. Kelly got out her recipe and all the necessary supplies. She mixed the batter and set the oven while Brian cleaned the rooms and swept the floor.

Soon Kelly cried out, “Brian are you done?”

“Yeah, come and look how clean the room is.”

Kelly walked in and gasped. Everything was dusted off and sparkling.

“Wow,” she exclaimed, “This house has never been so organized before.”

The pillows were set and all decorations were in place. Upstairs, the beds were made and the floors were spotless. Suddenly a strange aura filled the house.

“The cake!” yelled the two siblings

They stampeded into the kitchen and started coughing. Smoke filled the air. Kelly finally managed to yank open the oven door and the two stared in mute shock at their creation. Sizzling and brown the splattered cake lay in the oven, stale and filthy. Kelly and Brian could only stare. Ding-Dong! The sound of the bell jarred back to reality. The door opened and in walked their mom. She looked from the ruins of the cake to her children.

“What ha. . .  .” she trailed off. She looked around becoming aware of the clean house and trying to comprehend what was going on.

Unexpectedly she burst out laughing. Kelly and Brian looked at each other in surprise.

Finally, Brian managed to say, “You’re not mad?”

Grinning, their mom reached into her bag and pulled out a large box.

“It’s a chocolate cake!” yelped Kelly laughing along with Brian joining in.

They hugged each other and sat down while their mother exclaimed that she had never seen the house so tidy before. After a good laugh and delicious chocolate cake, Kelly and Brian decided this was the best surprise they ever did and the best surprise they ever got.

school topic essay

       Dear School Board,
It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.  ~Albert Einstein”, as the world prospers so doe’s technology. In the contemporary day, technology plays a big function in on a daily basis life, including education. To educate our town’s kids, we must have the fundamental things to do so. It is in the advantage of the students to have the ability to access computers for research, to extend an interest in class and thrive in academics. Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards.  ~Aldous Huxley With computers in classrooms, students will be aware that they can learn about the outside world. They will have an easy time searching the Web and become skilled at using computers. They will know where to go, what to do, and when to also. In today’s modern world, kids are less interested in studies and more in gadgets and electronics.  With computers in classrooms students will be eager to participate and research in class. Soon they will realize their potential goal and strive for it.
With students more engrossed in school, they will contribute and the grades will confirm it. Soon over half of the students will be able to ace tests and pass each class. It is in the best interest of the school board to provide computers in classroom in order for students to be successful and thriving.

UNIFORMS ESSAY

          Dear Richard O’Malley,

Being free is just as vital as being diverse. According to Supreme Court Justice, Charles Evans Hughes, “When we lose the right to be different, we lose the privilege to be free.” The certainty of this statement is repeated in the current proposal recommended to the School Board of Education, to issue school uniforms for students in grade Kindergarten to 12th grade, and if approved, making the intellectual performances increase throughout the school year. This decision involving compulsory uniforms would not be a thought through conclusion and by far has several shortcomings. It is in the benefit of the Board of Education not to issue uniforms due to their price, decline on distinctiveness and the lack of evidence to progress academic scores.
Setting a uniform policy, will result in having households to compensate for costly uniforms. Although parents will only need to acquire two or three sets of uniforms, this will be adequate for one student and will take the attention of one’s clothing and instead will turn the focus to their studies and academics. However, in addition to the cost of uniforms, parents and guardians must also purchase regular clothes, making the concluding sum an unreasonable charge for clothing. Therefore this confirms that school uniforms are not necessary in education.
With all district schools wearing uniforms, the diversity and individualism will be eliminated. In the matters of safety, gang members won’t be able to exhibit their colors and intruders will be evidently be perceptible among the students, however, there will be no uniqueness that separates kids from others. Without uniforms students can convey their natural inner feelings and also be able to show their talents. Nevertheless, uniforms hold students back to express themselves and hence are not needed in the school environment.
With the Board of Education wanting students to come to school in uniforms will have its advantages and disadvantages. People often think with uniforms academic performances will increase, since there will be less distractions regarding the attention to other students clothing. In contrast, study shows that when comparing schools with a uniform policy to other schools, there was no dramatically improvement in neither academic scores nor student proficiency.
It is in the best welfare of the students not to make uniforms obligatory for students in grade K-12. The Board of Education does not need a luxurious place that eradicates individuality and affects little on academic performances and the endorsement of safety. To disregard out towns future and present students would be a non productive attempt to make our schools a better place.

        Sincerely,
       Hadia Malik

Reflecting on Persuasive Commercial Preformances

Uusing persuasive in different ways, require alot of creavity. For our unit we decided to tape a persuasive commercial to make consumers buy the advertised product. This included humorous, laughing and absurd commercials. The advertisment me, Wamia and Alisa video taped was about how smart phones are better than regular phones. To add some feeling we named our company the REUNITED DUMPLING CORPORATION. Well Alisa did really. We combined two names and called our product the ismart! But theres always room for improvement. With three people with in our group we have a lengthened script. We should have made it in a reasonable length. We tried to use persuasive technique like: Even SELENA GOMEZ has one!!!!  The best part of the unit was video taping it and watching the bloopers. We kept improvising and our actors did a great job so we could hardly notice. We laughed and experienced acting. It wasnt the cast itself that did all the work. Our class mated Abi and Rebecca and all the others encourged us by letting themslevs make mistakes to take the pressure off. Also the teachers: Ms. Carrol AKA video taper, was a great assistance and who can forget Mrs Patalnao who made comments that really helped us know what to do in the future. I hope to continue doing many similar units like this one !
